A few days ago, a friend recommended Shen Shixi's works *The Two-Faced Hunting Dog* and *The Hybrid Jackal King*.
These two books mainly tell the story of a hunting dog named Luoga in the Riquka Snow Mountain who meets a female jackal by chance and gives birth to a hybrid named "White Eyebrow." In the fiercely competitive jackal pack, White Eyebrow's mother removes obstacles to its survival. After its mother's death, White Eyebrow is driven out of the pack by the jackal king Xia Suo'er and, with nowhere else to turn, seeks refuge with the hunter Amanxing. Amanxing's old black dog recognizes White Eyebrow's jackal nature and drives it away, leaving White Eyebrow no choice but to return to the jackal pack and become the lowest-ranking, suffering jackal. In a battle between jackals and wolves, White Eyebrow distinguishes itself and becomes the jackal king. However, in the end, it releases its former master Amanxing, who is surrounded by the jackals and on the verge of death, bringing about its own demise.
In this book, Amanxing is a treacherous villain. After Bai Meier released him, he was told not to reveal the jackal pack's location to the other hunters, but Amanxing betrayed his word and led the hunters and hounds in a large-scale raid on the Red Jackal Skull Cliff headquarters in Edith. This Amanxing is truly despicable! If I were the mountain god in the book, I would definitely teach him a lesson!
My favorite character in this book is Bai Meier. Bai Meier was once a pitiful lone jackal, suffering bullying. His jackal mind was enlightened by humans, and he fought against wild beasts. He experienced success and failure, rising and falling in glory and destitution. He is resolute and persevering; to capture a lynx, he ran over 50 kilometers in one go, demonstrating the utmost loyalty to his father, Luo Ga. Bai Meier is brave, never bowing to difficulties. Whether it's hunger, cold, or abandonment, he faces challenges head-on, changing his life through his own efforts. White-Eyebrow was kind-hearted, treating its friends wholeheartedly, giving its meager food to its companions, and even sacrificing itself to save its friends and master. White-Eyebrow knew gratitude, repaying Rabbit-Mouth's kindness in every way possible. White-Eyebrow had great dignity; when falsely accused of being a "chicken thief," although it couldn't speak to defend itself, it went alone into the mountains to hunt down the thief, clearing its name and winning everyone's trust.
This was White-Eyebrow: it possessed the loyalty of a hunting dog, faithfully fulfilling its duty as Amanxing's hunting dog; it possessed human kindness, putting the weak female jackal first; and it possessed the ferocity of a jackal, always fearless and courageous in the face of countless beasts.
After reading this book, I felt a mix of emotions—admiration, regret, and even shame. I lacked White-Eyebrow's persistent and never-give-up spirit. When faced with a problem, instead of trying, I hesitated, wondering if I could do it. I was wrong, utterly wrong! In comparison, I encounter far fewer obstacles in my life. This small problem actually taught me to give up! I began to reflect deeply on my actions. From now on, I will change and become someone who never gives up!
