Happiness comes from love

　　An older woman from my workplace was chatting with me when she talked about her love life when she was young. She said that back then, many educated youth were sent to the countryside, and there were dozens of men and women on her farm. She always wore two long, black, shiny braids that reached her waist, and many boys pursued her. But she fell in love with her current husband. When she talked about her husband, her face turned blush: "I just love that he's handsome and has such a good voice. When I'm unhappy, just hearing him sing a song makes me feel exceptionally good."

　　I know her husband; he's an ordinary worker, in his forties, and hasn't even reached a mid-level management position at his workplace. As for his good looks, I don't really think so, because time can turn a handsome man into something quite ordinary. She added, "Many people pursued me back then; some of them are now bureau chiefs, some are wealthy, but my husband has no ambition at all." Although she was playfully complaining about her husband, her tone and expression were full of joy and pride.

　　I deliberately asked her, "If time could turn back, would you choose the boy who's now a bureau chief and a tycoon, or would you still choose your husband?" The aunt thought for a moment, then firmly said, "Even if I knew those boys would become rich and powerful, I would still choose my current husband. I don't regret my choice!" Looking at her sweet smile, as shy as a girl in her first love, I knew she wasn't lying; she spoke from the heart—because she loved him, even if she gave up a life of luxury and lived a simple life, she wouldn't regret it.

　　Family background and social standing are by no means a woman's primary or only criteria for choosing a partner, because this is a society full of uncertainties. A poor family background doesn't mean that person has no future. The important thing is that you like that person, and you truly love each other. Then, no matter what the future holds, you will accept it calmly, because you chose the person you love. With love, there is happiness!
