Let personal love give way to greater love.

    What is small love? It's the small amount of effort one can exert. What is great love? It's the collective power of society. When small love clashes with great love, small love should give way to great love, allowing more people to feel love—that is great love.

    When the earthquake struck again, Sichuan once more gripped people's hearts. Love reappeared, warming hearts once more. Love came from the government and from social volunteers. But when the path of love becomes congested, which should be abandoned? Perhaps abandoning either is unfair, but for the sake of helping more people, small love should give way to great love. Love is not wrong, but the power of individuals in society is weaker than that of the government; we cannot provide much more help for the progress of the disaster area. Conversely, when we turn away, this seemingly heartless act actually clears the way for love. People's small love does not lose its meaning because of this concession; it is precisely these small acts of love forced to yield that make the light of great love shine. Only when small love yields can great love, like "water flowing onto level ground," nourish more people; only when small love yields can great love, like the rising sun, shine brighter. Small love yielding is not selfish; it is even more selfless.

    In fact, there are many other situations where small love must yield to great love. In ancient times, Yu the Great, in his efforts to control the floods, passed his home three times without entering, putting aside his marital love. His love for the people in preventing floods was a great love, and his marital love yielded to it. Wen Tianxiang loved his own life, but his love for his country, the Southern Song Dynasty, ultimately led him to sacrifice it. His vow, "My heart is like a lodestone, it will not rest until it points south," showed that his love for life yielded to his love for his country. Tsangyang Gyatso, the Tibetan Dalai Lama, because of his love for Buddhism, gave up his love for his beloved, choosing the ancient temple and the lamp for companionship. Small love yielded to the great love for Buddhism; ultimately, he could not fulfill his promise of "neither betraying the Buddha nor betraying his beloved." These are all examples of sacrificing personal love for the greater good. Conversely, they were not condemned but instead remembered throughout history—a sacrifice of personal love for the sake of greater love.

    Personal love versus greater love does not necessarily indicate selfishness. Sacrificing personal love does not mean a lack of love, but rather a change, allowing love to be released in another way, transforming into greater love. When more people receive love, that is great love. If great love is achieved through sacrificing personal love, then people will not forget your personal love while enjoying the greater love. Let personal love be sublimated into great love through selflessness—this is precisely the embodiment of the ancient Chinese saying, "When you achieve success, you should help others." It is about the world, not just individuals; it is about great love, not just personal love. Let personal love give way

    to great love, allowing the stream of great love to flow more smoothly;

    let personal love give way to great love, allowing the sunshine of great love to fill the earth;

    only by letting personal love give way to great love can love fill the world!
