As university students, most of us were stepping onto the podium as teachers for the first time. The first time doing anything is always a profound experience. Some people, even on their first lecture, could speak fluently and naturally; others were nervous, even unable to sleep the night before, waking up very early to prepare… The first lecture was challenging, but the second time we gained experience and could lecture more naturally.
Although our rural service class was designed to be fun, we all felt that a classroom is a classroom; it needs to be engaging, but seriousness is equally important. If we only focus on fun without seriousness, then the class is a failure. We believe that a classroom that is only fun will be chaotic and restless, and students will gain very little. Therefore, seriousness is also necessary to create a classroom that is both educational and enjoyable, maximizing students' learning.
We also acknowledged some shortcomings in this rural service class. For example, the difficulty level of the lesson content was not well controlled, resulting in some content being too simple and superficial, while others were too in-depth and comprehensive, or too difficult. Furthermore, class time was not well managed; content that should have been covered in one lesson was not finished, while other content was covered too early… No one is perfect, and we all have shortcomings to some extent. What we can do is try our best to improve and strive to do better next time we stand on the teaching platform. Let's work together and make progress together!
